This post is about the importance behind owning your blogs domain name and getting it from a trusting host.

Have you ever been scrolling through Pinterest, Tumblr etc., clicked on something cool just to get redirected to a sketchy- looking website?
Example #1. Look at my URL (the thing up top in the search bar) it says “www.livinglikelola.com ” and thats it. Short and sweet, because I am the sole owner of my website. If I weren’t, it would look a little something like this “www.livinglikelola.wordpress.jahefvean.241.com”, and take 5x longer to load.
Now do you know what I mean? We have all been exposed to hackers, gotten spam links in our DMs, came across fake accounts, and of course, had the conspiring fear of being watched through your webcam (or listened to via Alexa)
So if our browser redirects us to a sketchy looking URL, you can bet the first thing 90% of people do is LEAVE.
In order for people to take your website seriously, you need to take it seriously. If you have read my related blogging posts, you know that I only use and recommend Bluehost…. as well as hundreds of other successful bloggers! (Explaining why Bluehost has been ranked at #1 Hosting Provider for YEARS)
To make it even better, it is only $3.95 a month! I will admit, it sucks that you cant pay monthly, but it is way cheaper than other hosting sites that do let you pay per month (I .g. typically costs $12/month)
Overall, owning your website is worth it. Here are some more reasons why:
Things that can go wrong when you DONT own your domain name:
- It looks sketchy. You will never land a visitor if you don’t look legit.
- You. Dont. Own. It. No matter how much hard work you put in, or how ever many times you call it “your website/ your blog” it never will be yours.. and can be taken away from you at any time.
- At any point it can disappear. You aren’t the owner of it so it can vanish just as quickly as you started it.
- The website is very easy to hack. Another reason why visitors should an will be sketched out upon visiting your website is when you dont have ownership, you have ZERO security & protection. It is way easier than you think to get hacked… dont let all your hard work go to waste.
- You will loose all your work if you try to upgrade. If you finally decide to upgrade and want own your domain later on… there is no guarantee you won’t loose all your previous hard work.
- Unprofessional. Again, no one is going to take you seriously when your URL is gibberish and crazy long… make yourself look legit.
