If I learned anything in 2019, it is to never underestimate the power of charcoal products.
Charcoal is working its way up to becoming the most diverse ingredient in the beauty world and let me tell ya, it makes sense. How to clear acne? Charcoal cleanser. Yellow teeth? Charcoal toothpaste. Dandruff? Charcoal powder. Clogged pores? Charcoal face peel.
It’s almost like it is the solution to all things beauty and I’m here for it. Now before I get into the good stuff (aka what charcoal products you need to add to your beauty routine ASAP….), allow me to explain a little background of this miracle working product.

So. What Makes Charcoal So Great?
- Acts as a magnet for dirt, dead skin cells and other environmental pollutions
- Can absorb 1000x its weight in harmful substances (dirt, dust, oil)
- Great exfoliant
- Unclogs pores leaving skin BRIGHT and CLEAN
- Anti-fungal
Oh, and it works for All Skin Types
The best part about charcoal is that it is one of the few ingredients that is totally universal. Doesn’t matter if you have oily skin, acne prone, dry or dull…. using an Activated Charcoal product will be of use.
- TIP: If you have dry prone skin, using charcoal can make your skin feel extra dry so it is best you purchase a charcoal product that has a coconut oil base or shea butter mixed into it. (see below)
- Note: I have a dry > normal skin complexion and still prefer the plain black activated charcoal bar over the coconut oil infused one. It leaves my skin feeling very tight which I love! To avoid the “dry feeling” I follow up with a thick coat of body butter and I am good to go. 🙂
Alright. Now lets get to the best charcoal products on the market for your skin.
Charcoal Soap
This body bar is an excellent cleanser for all skin types, plus it is affordable. Don’t be set off by the black bar or bubbles, it doesn’t leave any dark residue or streaks on your body. Instead, the activated charcoal acts as a magnet to dust, dirt, or any pollutants leaving you squeaky clean.
BONUS: It is fragrant free, no toxins, sulfate or any of that junk.

Charcoal Facial Cleanser
This facial cleanser is great for acne prone skin! As mentioned before, the activated charcoal seeps into your pores and sucks out all the nasty stuff that acne builds on.
BONUS: “Say Yes To” is one of my favorite drug store brands when it comes to skin care! Everything is affordable and clean ingredients.

Charcoal Toothpaste
OK. Let me start by saying this powder can be VERY MESSY but non the less, very worth it. The first time I went to open the jar, I did it a bit aggressively and next thing I know a cloud of black dust was taking over my bathroom. Black ALL OVER. But, fortunately, it doesn’t stain (it actually left my sink extra white lol) but still, open with caution.
Aside from that, this stuff works wonders. I recommend buying a spare toothbrush to use for the powder so your everyday one doesn’t turn black. Also, this will turn your mouth black so obviously brush and floss after!! Result? Sparkly bright teeth.
If you aren’t interested in the powder and prefer a regular toothpaste, CLICK HERE to check out the Native Charcoal Toothpaste. It is cleaner than the powder and still gives a great white clean!

Charcoal Face Mask (3 Options)
As we all know I am a face mask junkie. Skin care may or may not be my truest love (sorry Dallas hehe) There is a lot to benefit from a Charcoal face mask, especially if you have acne or blackhead prone skin. These masks are highly detoxifying, stripping away bad bacteria and imperfections. Below are my three favorites:
Clay mask
Sheet mask
Peel mask
